Mash potatoes; add 1 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 2 beaten eggs, 1/2 stick of butter, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Place mixture in a greased baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine topping ingredients (select one of the two versions as noted above).
Top the sweet potato casserole with nut mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
