Bulgur Wheat Pilau with tomatoes. A Turkish Pilau dish which many other eastern countries have.
In a big saucepan or a stew pot, heat the olive oil and add choppped onions and stir until they are golden. Add half a can of chopped tomatoes and tomato puree and stir it until the juice of tomatoes is gone. Add 2 glasses of bulgur wheat (whatever your measure is you should always use the same measure for water too. so, if you choose a long glass then the water has to be put with a long glass. However, this recipe is made by using a classic short water glass) Add salt and Stir the bulgur for 4-5 mins with the mix. Add 3.5 glasses of water(not hot) and close the lid. When it starts bubbling ( usually takes 5 mins or less), decrease the heat and let it cook for 15 mins under low heat. The best way to know if its cooked or not is if wholes start to appear. If yes then take a wooden spoon and look at the bottom if its still juicy or not. Some like it a little bit juicy almost like a risotto consistency but i personally prefer non juicy yet still not too dry. You can also add a little more of olive oil in the end depanding on the choice.Turn off the heat and put a kitchen towel under the lid so that it will observe the moist. Wait for 10 mins and its ready to serve.
Alternative addings:
Dry oregano
Mint
Black peppercorns
Aubergines
