"Oh oh oh this is THE best chocolate cake I have ever had. Oodles of work, but worth it. I recommend doing it over two days. Bake the cakes, then do the rest the second day. Most important: let those layers cool COMPLETELY before you add the whipped cream filling or it will just melt into nothing on the cake. Chill the filling well before spreading it, for the same reason. Careful, it will become a heavily requested item! Great for giving a loving gift to the chocoholic who has everything."- xanna

Perfect Chocolate Cake: Combine cocoa and boiling water, stirring until smooth; set aside. Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour, soda, baking powder, and salt in bowl; add to mixture alternately with cocoa mixture. Stir in vanilla. Use two 10" pans. Bake 350 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes
WHIPPPED CREAM FILLING: Beat whipping cream and vanilla until foamy; gradually add powdered sugar. Makes 1 cup.
PERFECT CHOCOLATE FROSTING: Combine first three ingredients in saucepan; cook until chocolate melts. Remove from heat; add powdered sugar. Set pan is ice, and beat until frosting holds it shape and loses it gloss. Add a few more drops of half/half if needed to make spreading consistency.

KellKelz 1 month agoVery nice, I added orange butter icing filling and made my own chocolate topping, with chocolate sprinkles.. Yum! Rated 5 star <3
AlysLandy 4 months agoI don't even want to give it one star! Cake came out flavorless, like styrofoam; the texture fell apart like sandstone. Even with more than adequate greasing it refused to depart the pan with great catastrophe, claiming the life if the cake. Do NOT recommend and will NEVER even think remotely about using this recipe again!!!!!

erinmommaof3 9 months agoCake is great. Icing is like slip and slide. Do not use this icing if you have any intention of keeping the 2 layers together.

Alexx37 2 years agoBest chocolate cake ever! I've made this recipe twice for my family and they loved it. Instead of raspberries like in the picture I use strawberry halves in a circle around the top and sliced strawberries in the middle with the whipped cream filling. I wish you'd correct the baking powder error though. Since you didn't say how much I just put in half a teaspoon. It was perfect!
Cheffveronica 2 years agoThis was the worst cake i ever made... It came out looking like rubber inside... It was baked alk the way so i think something went wrong along the way.. Also there should be a more descriptive prep
tamikneeland 2 years agoHow much baking powder should be used! Can't wait to try it!!
Ihitem99 2 years agoInstead of having the whipped cream filling I'd make more frosting and put that in the middle instead
