In a large frying pan brown 2 lbs of hamburger meat then drain well; Add one small to medium finely diced onion, ketchup (Heinz brand is our favorite), yellow mustard, vinegar, sugar and a good dash of salt; Mix together well and allow to simmer for about one hour. Spoon onto a hamburger bun and serve warm with potato chips or your favorite picnic side dishes. Happy Eating!

HunkyDory 3 weeks agoThis was a really tasty recipe. Sure beats sloppy joe's out of a can. I made a few small changes. I used Heinz Chili Sauce instead of ketchup; used apple cider vinegar for the vinegar; added two cloves of garlic; and used gluten free hot dog buns (all I had on hand) to make this a gluten free dinner. I started with closer to 3 pounds of ground beef but measured the other ingredients just a shown in the recipe. Did my simmering in a 250 degree oven (an Alton Brown technique). Wound up with a nice dinner and put back two containers in the freezer for future dinners. Next time I make this, I'm going to try brown sugar instead of regular table sugar. I'm also wondering how it would work out to use chopped dates or plums as the sweetener? Anyone have some thoughts about that?
