1. Mix together broccoli, onion, cheddar cheese and bacon.
2. Combine the sugar, vinegar and mayonnaise for the dressing.
3. When ready to serve, pour the dressing over the vegetable salad.
It is better to err on the side of less onion rather than more and you can over-compensate with the cheese and bacon. It is best to keep all the salad ingredients separate (not just the dressing) until about an hour before you are ready to serve it.
