This is a mild barbecue sauce recipe. You may want to add some hot sauce at the beginning and/or some cayenne pepper towards the end for a spicier sauce.
Melt butter in sauce pan over medium heat.
Add paprika, chili powder, and cinnamon and stir into butter to let spices bloom.
Add onion & garlic, sauté until soft, 3 min.
Add all ingredients to crockpot & Cook for about 6-8 hours on low. 4-6 hours on high.
Strain to remove bay leaf and any remaining large pieces of onion/garlic.
in a separate small dish, combine additional butter and flour, whisk to combine.
Add 1 tablespoon of sauce into dish and whisk to combine, repeating a few times until a slurry is created.
Combine slurry and sauce in a sauce pan, bring to a boil, and let simmer until thickened.
Let cool at room temperature and refrigerate.
1 recipe makes about 2 cups.
