Corned Beef, Slow Cooked

An Irish favorite you can start before you leave for work and will be ready when you get home.


1 large Corned Beef
1 Salt
0.5 tsp Crushed Red Pepper
Garlic Powder
1 cup beef broth
10 Red Skin Potatoes
10 Carrots; cut in half then quartered
2 Onions; Quartered
2 heads Cabbage; Quartered
Brown Sugar
Yellow Mustard

Lay your Corned Beef on a cutting board.

Season generously with salt, pepper, and Garlic Powder to taste

Take a large fork and pierce the meat several times on all sides driving your seasoning into the meat.

Place your meat into a large slow cooker

Add the potatoes, carrots, onion, and cabbage around the corned beef.

Add the Beef Broth, then add enough water to cover.

Add to the liquid, the crushed red pepper, additional salt, pepper, and Garlic (If desired), and seasonings that come with the Corned Beef.

Slow cook on Low for 8-10 hours or High for 4-5 Hours.

Remove from slow cooker and place Corned Beef on a baking dish, fat side up. Coat the top with a generous layer of Brown Sugar. Top that with a generous layer of yellow mustard.

Bake in oven at 350 for 15 minutes.

Serve with the vegitable in the slow cooker.

Make sure you place the veggies in first! If you don't have a crockpot big enough to place them "around" the meat, then they will not cook! Good recipe though.

I love this recipe! It's very yummy with a great flavor. I like to use fancy mustards to change it up a notch.

Note, if you will be home for the duration of the slow cook, you can add your vegitables during the last 4 hours to reduce over cooking them. [I posted this recipe.]
