Melt butter in saucepan or in bowl in the microwave. Remove from heat and stir in cocoa and vanilla. Alternately blend in icing sugar and milk until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency.
FUDGEY CHERRY COCOA FROSTING:
Proceed as above substituting 2 tbsp maraschino cherry juice for milk and adding 1/8 tsp almond extract.
FUDGEY ORANGE COCOA FROSTING:
Proceed as above substituting 2 tbsp orange juice for milk and adding 1/2 tsp grated orange rind.
Double ingredients for a 9 X 13 cake.
