My grandmother made this pie for family get togethers. I have made it several times with different modifications on the crust (graham cracker, chocolate chip cookie, and brownie) and different flavors of pudding (butterscotch, lemon, vanilla) but nothing beats the chocolate.
1. Mix the crust ingredients, pack into bottom of a 9x13 baking pan, bake at 325 degrees for about 15-25 minutes (until crust is light brown). If you are doing the brownie crust follow the directions on the package/box. Cool completely.
2. Beat together the "White Layer" ingredients. Set aside.
3. Beat together the "Pudding Layer" ingredients, let it set up in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes. Make sure you only put 3 cups milk, instead of the amount specified on the back of the pudding box.
4. When crust is cool, spread white layer evenly over crust. I find this is easier if you spoon big dollops in many places over crust, as opposed to spooning it all out in one spot. That way the crust isn't as likely to crumble when you spread it evenly.
5. Spread the pudding evenly over the white layer.
6. Top the pudding layer with Cool Whip or homemade whipped topping.
7. Refrigerate for a couple hours before serving.
8. ENJOY!!!
