This is a family recipe, handed down from my great grandmother. It is an "Americanized" version of the traditional German recipe.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut the steak into 1-inch cubes. In a medium skillet or Dutch oven, brown the steak in olive oil. Mix the brown gravy mix in the water and add to pot. Bring to boil, stirring constantly. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover pot, and place in oven. Bake for 1-½ hours (or longer). Cook pasta as per package directions. Remove bay leaf from the meat, mix with pasta, and serve.
