A meringue crust which can be filled with any favorite fruit and topped with Cool Whip or sweetened
whipped cream and topped with chocolate shavings or chopped nuts and chocolate syrup or
sprinkles. Taken from Betty Crocker Cookbook which I received as a gift in 1966.
Heat oven to 300 degrees F. Butter generously a 9 inch pie pan. Beat room temperature egg whites
until frothy. Gradually beat in sugar until whites are stiff. Fold in cracker crumbs and pecans.
Spread in the pie pan. Bake 30 minutes. Cool. Fill with the strawberries which have stems removed
and top with Cool Whip or sweetened whipped cream (Ready Whip). Chill for several hours.
Serves 6 - 8. The meringue is the crust.
Take the eggs out of the refrigerator several hours before starting this recipe, and make sure you have
all the ingredients, measuring cups, and measuring spoons on the worktop before you start.
