these are the first muffins I'd ever made but it was easy to follow and they tasted great. I followed another reviewer's advice and added a teaspoon of vanilla and cinnamon, as well as some chopped almonds. I forgot to try the brown sugar on the top but I might next time.
it tastes just like my mom's. The split peas we had came with seasoning, so I'm not sure how that changed it, but I'm sure it was a combination of salt and pepper and some other spice. I used half lentils, as i didn't have enough split peas. Came out creamy and thick.
