Suggest a better descriptionPour 1/4 cup of bourbon over chopped nuts to soak. Mix the sugar, condensed milk, butter and remaining bourbon, to make filling. Alternate adding bourbon and sugar to assist in mixing. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on cookie sheets and place in refrigerator or freezer until well chilled. (This makes it easier to handle). Roll into balls and chill a second time, if necessary. Melt the chocolate and paraffin, over low heat, for the coating. Use a toothpick to pierce the ball and dip in chocolate to coat. Twirl the toothpick to release the ball onto a sheet of wax paper, or marble slab. Store finished bourbon balls in candy tin or Tupperware, in the refrigerator.
Use real butter, never margarine, which has varying degrees of water, making the filling hard to handle. Use Old Charter bourbon, for best results. Let sit in the refigerator for several days before serving to allow the flavors to marry.
