Preheat oven to 300F
Cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time and mix well between additions. Add salt, flour and buttermilk. Mix well to incorporate. Pour into unbaked pie crust and bake at 300F for 1 1/2 hours.
