Soft, moist butter cake, ideal for birthday cake base
1. Preheat oven to 350 F / 175 degrees C
2. Cream together butter and sugar till light and fluffy
3. Beat in eggs, one by one
4. Blend in the vanilla
In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt
5. Add sifted mixture and milk alternately to the wet mix and blend thoroughly, leaving no lumps
6. Grease a cake pan and pour prepared batter into it
7. Bake in oven for till it springs back on being touched, about 30 - 40 minutes
8. Let it cool, then frost (if required) and serve
Tip: Cream the butter and sugar well for light and spongy texture
