This simple buttercream frosting recipe can either be Vanilla or by substituting some of the powdered sugar with powdered cocoa, it can be made chocolate.
In a bowl of an electric mixer with the paddle blade, beat butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and milk alternately, then add vanilla and mix on low until fluffy and smooth. This will frost a double layered cake.
For chocolate: remove some of the powdered sugar and replace with powdered sweetened cocoa, mix with some of the powdered sugar, then proceed with the instructions above.
