Suggest a better descriptionShred cabbage. Cook 5 to 8 minutes in boiling water with 1 teaspoon of salt. Don’t over cook; cabbage should remain crisp. Drain well. Layer cabbage in buttered 2 quart casserole: cabbage, enough sauce to cover, second layer of cabbage, remaining sauce, then cheese topped with buttered breadcrumbs. Bake in preheated oven at 300° for 15 to 20 minutes.
Basic White Sauce
Melt butter in sauce pot and add flour, salt and pepper to make a paste. Add milk and cook until thick, stirring constantly.
Yield 8 to 10 servings
