Suggest a better descriptionPreheat oven to 325°. Cream butter and sugar together, then mix in the flour and salt until just combined. Roll out dough until it's a quarter-inch thick. Cut out circles with a 3-inch biscuit cutter. Put a pinch of apples, half of a caramel square and a marshmallow on one half of the circle. Leave a border so it will seal. Fold the other half and pinch it together gently. Stretch the dough out a little if it is hard to close.
Put cookies on a parchment-lined or greased sheet pan and bake for 10-15 minutes. The cookies should be set but not golden brown all over.
For decoration:
To make cookies on a stick, melt chocolate, dip the end of a pretzel stick in the chocolate, and then carefully press the pretzel into the shortbread before it cools. You can use any colored icing or sprinkles that you like, and put any filling inside them.
For a variation: Use chocolate chips and a slice of strawberry on the insides.
