Suggest a better descriptionIn a medium bowl, combine flour and next 5 ingredients; once pea-sized and oatmeal like add sugar, mix with fork and chill or freeze until needed.
In a wide, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-low heat melt 2 tbs butter. Stir in 1 tbs sugar and apple chunks. Cover and cook 20-30 minutes or until apples are soft and beginning to break down, stirring occasionally. Transfer half of mixture to a heat proof bowls; puree with immersion blender then return to pan.
Increase heat to medium-high. Stir in cherries; cover and cook 3 minutes, then uncover and cook 2 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and almond extracts.
Turn fruit into 9" pie plate. (For make ahead - at this point can stand up to 3 hours or refrigerate up to 5 days.)
Preheat oven to 375
Sprinkle topping over fruit then sprinkle with almonds. Bake 30 min till bubbly. Stand 15 min before serving.
