Blend cake mix, oil, water, eggs and food coloring. Stir in nuts, if desired. Drop from a teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Top each cookie with a quarter of maraschino cherry.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
Cool on cookie sheet for about 1 minute, the remove to cooling rack.
