Cream together shortening, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add water, flour, salt, and baking soda; stir until well moistened. Add chocolate chips and nuts if desired. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes, although it usually takes 10 for a good size cookie. Do not overbake. Cool on wire rack.
I let cool on cookie sheet for a minute or two before moving cookies to wire rack so they don't fall apart.
