The Cake:
Use one box of Duncan Hines BUTTER cake mix and follow as directed (13 X 9 pan). except for baking time. You can also use the Duncan Hines yellow cake mix and follow the low fat recipe on the box. If you want, milk can be substituted for the water. Bake the cake for about 10 minutes less than suggested. You need to keep checking that the cake looks close to being done (firm but not completely cooked) but not too mushy. The crumbs will be added to the top and then the cake needs to bake for another 10 minutes. If the top is too mushy when the crumps are added, they will sink into the cake. the more you make the recipe, the better you will become at judging when to put the crumbs on.
The Crumbs:
Soften (not melted) 2 and 1/2 sticks of salted butter then add 1 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of cinnamon; stir.
You will need three cups of flour. Add the flour to the buttery mixture a cup at a time. Usually for the last cup I mix by hand. Place the crumbs on top of the cake by hand making little crumbs to fill the top completely and bake for the remaining 10 minutes.
Tip: Do not be worried if the cake cooks longer than the time indicated on the box; a few more minutes won't hurt. After the cake cools, sprinkle the top with powdered sugar and enjoy!
