Mom's recipe. For a German Chocolate Cake.
Mix evaporated milk, sugar butter, salt and egg in a small sauce pan.
Cook over medium heat until it thickens and begins to boil. (12-15 minutes)
Remove from heat.
Add coconut, vanilla and pecans.
Stir.
Cool thoroughly before frosting cake.
