A small bread/biscuit cooked in hot liquid - usually in a chicken soup. Any boiling liquid will cook a dumpling.

In medium sized mixing bowl, combine flour, salt and baking powder. Stir with a fork to blend.
Break the egg into a 1/2 Cup*** sized measuring cup. Pour enough milk into the measuring cup, with the egg inside, to fill the measuring cup. DO NOT USE A LARGER MEASURING CUP.
Pour egg and milk mixture into the dry mix and blend with the fork - gently; just until a moist, sticky batter forms.
Be sure that whatever liquid is being used to cook the dumplings is boiling. Dip a spoon into the hot liquid and scoop out a spoonful to drop into the hot liquid. Dipping the spoon beforehand allows the dough to separate easily from the spoon. Continue with the same method until all of the dough in the bowl is used up - or until the top of the boiling broth is covered.
Put lid on the boiling broth and cook dumplings for 2 minutes.
After 2 minutes - turn each dumpling over using a large spoon and cook the dumpling for 2 more minutes.
Sever with meal.
Dumplings should be eaten fresh, but can be held in the refrigerator, out of the broth, for 2 days.
Be sure to leave the egg inside the measuring cup when pouring the milk. Too much liquid will result in soggy dumplings. ***The key is to have both the egg and the milk in the same 1/2 cup measuring cup.
