Difficulty: Easy
Very forgiving bread that can be customized with herbs and additions.
An oven-safe Dutch oven and lid is required
1. Whisk dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
2. Add rosemary, garlic, and cheese and whisk until combined.
3. Add water and stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until combined.
4. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let sit 8-24 hours (ideally 12-18 hours) at room temperature.
5. Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
6. Once oven is preheated, place Dutch oven with lid on into the oven. Preheat the Dutch oven for 30 minutes.
7. As soon as Dutch oven has been put in the oven to preheat, heavily flour a surface and form the dough into a ball shape. Avoid excessive handling of the dough.
8. Cover dough with plastic wrap and let sit until Dutch oven is ready.
9. Once Dutch oven is ready, carefully place dough inside the dutch oven. Cover it with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
10. Remove lid and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes or until golden brown.
11. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
*Sliced bread can be frozen in a Ziploc bag and reheated in a toaster or toaster oven.
**Garlic, rosemary, and cheese are optional. My favorite cheeses to include are Parmesan, mozzarella, and cheddar.
***1 cup whole-wheat flour can be substituted for 1 cup all-purpose flour
