A slightly sweet and tangy spaghetti sauce from my mother's kitchen. The preparation time is about 15 minutes. Then you let it simmer for about 3 hours. It reheats and freezes well.
Pan fry ground turkey or ground beef with onion and garlic, breaking meat into small pieces and frying until meat is cooked thoroughly.
Drain grease.
Move hamburger mixture to large soup pot.
Add water, tomato sauce, tomato paste, bay leaves, dry mustard and Italian seasoning and heat to boiling.
Reduce heat, cover and simmer for one (1) hour.
Remove lid and continue to simmer for one and a half (1 1/2) hours.
Stir in apple cider vinegar and brown sugar.
Continue to simmer, uncovered, until sauce is desired thickness (approximately 30 minutes).
