Combine all of the ingredients for the rub, then rub the meat thoroughly, and let it come to room temp.
In a food processor or a blender combine all the ingredients for the sauce and blend until it reaches the consistency of pesto, refrigerate.
When ready to cook, start the Traeger on smoke with lid open until the fire is established (4 to 5 minutes). Set the temperature to 450 degrees (high) and preheat, lid closed, for 10 to 15 minutes.
Place the Tri-tip directly on the grill and turn, until it has good grill marks all around, then place it in the center of the grill and cook until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 130 degrees, about 20 to 25 minutes.
Remove from the Traeger and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving, serve with the Chimichurri sauce.
