2. Clean meat, trim fat; cook boned meat and cubed meat separately.
3. Put boned meat in 8 cups of water on the stove on high. No oil needed.
4. Add spices to the boned meat: 2 tsp black pepper, 3 tsp salt, 3 tsp turmeric, 3 tbsp haleem masala mix.
5. Add 4 tbsp ginger/garlic paste and 6 chillis to the boned meat.
6. Bring boned meat to a boil. Boil for 1 hour or until meat comes off the bones. Add in the rest of the cubed meat.
7. Wash all the lentil/daal and add 12 cups of water.
8. Add spices to the daal: 1 tsp black pepper, 5 tsp salt, 2 tsp turmeric, 3 tbsp haleem masala mix.
9. Add 2 tbsp ginger/garlic paste to daal.
11. Add cooked barley to daal mixture/pot.
10. Bring the daal mix to a boil on high, then turn heat to low and cover until all daal is cooked (about 1 hour).
12. Cook onion in ghee until browned/caramelized and dump into the daal mixture/pot.
13. Blend the daal mixture - not completely, you still want to see some daal pieces.
14. Taste meat water for salt.
15. Mix all the meat with the daal.
*all peas and lentils should be skinless
**optional: add in dry roasted cumin powder, dry roasted red chilli powder at the end
