Lisa's mom clipped this from something decades ago. I'm sure she played with it as she did with all recipes.
1. In a mixing bowl, thoroughly mix the kasha and eggs.
2. Pour mixture into a large skillet and stir kasha over medium heat until the grains are separate and dry.
3. Transfer kasha to a large saucepan, pour in boiling water. Cover and let steam over low heat until all water is absorbed, about 30 minutes.
4. Meanwhile, in a large skillet, heat the chicken fat and sauté onions until golden brown. (Unless the skillet is very large, the onions will have to be sauteéd in two shifts. In an overcrowded skillet they will not brown properly.P
5. Add onions and cooking fat to the kasha.
6. Add cooked bowties, season to taste with salt and pepper and mix.
7. May be served immediately or reheated a few hours later in a covered casserole.
