My family doesn't like veggies in their shepard pie, so my mom created a carnivore's edition. This is a perfect dish to use up left over mashed potatoes.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Brown ground beef, adding spices to taste. Drain fat. In an 11x7 baking dish sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, spread half of the mashed potatoes. Sprinkle half of the ground beef on top, then add half of grated cheese. Repeat layering starting with the rest of the mashed potatoes. Bake for 15-20 until heated through and cheese is melted.
Use as much or as little of the ingredients as you like. Want more potato than meat, pile it on! Not a cheese lover? Omit it! Try different cheeses. Want to add some heat? Add crushed red pepper flakes to the ground beef as you brown. This recipe is very versatile. Enjoy!
