Mix sugar, shortening, milk and cocoa in large saucepan, stirring until it comes to a boil. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Beat in peanut butter and oats. Add vanilla. Drop by spoonfuls onto waxed paper. Let stand until firm.
