Mom's notes list "Mom" and "Bea" so this recipe would be from my grandmother and Aunt Beatrice.
Dissolve yeast in the hot water. Add salt, brown sugar, shortening, eggs, milk, and flour. Knead into smooth, firm dough. Let rise until doubled. Turn out onto floured board. Roll 1/4 inch thick.
For filling, Brush dough with melted butter. Sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and currents. Roll as for jelly roll.
For topping, cream brown sugar and shortening. Add canned milk to make soft consistency. Spread on sides and bottom of baking pan.
Cut dough into 1 inch slices and place cut side down in pan. Let rise until doubled
Brush top with butter, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Bake in a medium oven for 20 minutes.
