Nice change to cinnamon rolls
In a large mixing bowl combine water, sugar, eggs, shortening, and yeast. Allow to stand 5 minutes or until yeast appears foamy. Add 4 cups flour, sifted with powdered milk and salt. Mix well. Gradually add additional flour until a soft dough. Knead a few minutes. Place in oiled bowl and let raise until double in bulk Punch down. Roll out into rectangle and spread with filling. Roll up jelly roll style, pinch edges to seal. with scissors, cut into 3/4" slices and place in oiled roll pan. Let rise a second time.
Bake at 425 for 12-15 minutes or until light brown. Remove from oven.
Pour glaze over top of rolls and sprinkle with almond or coconut.
Makes 3 dozen rolls
Filling:
4 tablespoons butter softened
grated rind of 1 orange
4 tablespoons sugar
Mix and sprinkle over the buttered dough.
Glaze:
1 tablespoons butter softened
1 cup powdered sugar
juice from 1 orange.
Blend till smooth and spread over the rolls.
