Cream shortening and peanut butter in mixing bowl, add sugar and continue to beat.
Add eggs and vanilla and beat until fluffy.
In separate bowl mix flour, salt, soda and powder. Mix well. Gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
Chill dough in refrigerator for several hours.
Meanwhile unwrap candy kisses and set on counter beside the oven. Put 1/2 cup granulated sugar in a medium bowl.
Shape each 31 grams of dough into balls and roll in sugar to coat. Put on cooking sheets 2 inches apart and bake for 10-12 minutes.
When almost done, take out of oven and press a candy kiss into the center of each cookie. Return to oven for 1 more minute.
