Suggest a better descriptionBeat cream cheese and butter together until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture. Blend well. Chill at least one hour. When chilled shape into 1-inch balls and place on cookie sheet. Press down centers with thumb.
For meringue
Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar; beat to stiff peaks.
Fill center of cookies with jam. Pipe meringue around outside edge of cookie. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
