Gran's recipe
Then ADD to the risen yeast mixture; mix well. BEAT in 3 C flour; 1 at a time. KNEAD on floured board about 30 strokes. Place in a greased bowl & cover. Let Rise til almost double in bulk, about 1 1/2 hrs. DIVIDE dough in half. Roll each 1/2 of dough on lightly floured board to an 18" x 6" rectangle. Spread center 1/3 w/ soft butter. FOLD one side of dough to overlap center. Spread w/ add'l butter. Fold opposite side to overlap. ROLL OUT to 18" x 6" again. Cut into 1" strips. Coil each strip loosely on well-greased baking sheets to form a "snail". LET RISE in warm place til double in bulk, 30-45 mins. BAKE at 375* for 12-15 mins.
