This is from Grandma Bierman. She always served these along with clam chowder for our Bierman Family Christmas party.
***This dough must be refrigerated overnight before use.***
Heat buttermilk so it is lukewarm. Soften the yeast in 3/4 C. of the buttermilk. Meanwhile, add sugar, eggs, oil, salt, baking powder, and baking soda plus 4 cups of flour to buttermilk. Add yeast. Beat until smooth and well-blended. Add flour to make a soft dough. Mix well. Cover and let rise until 2x in size. Punch down and REFRIGERATE OVERNIGHT.
When ready to fry, roll out on lightly floured board and cut as desired. Fry in 360 F fat, until golden brown on both sides.
Serve with butter and honey. (and clam chowder!)
