How about a flavor of whiskey induced in the burger? Exciting as it sounds, the burger is just as moist and the hint of whiskey brings on a different taste level!
(See Notes about cooking with alcohol & children's safety)
Choose which sauce you will be using, Smoky or Chili.
For either burger recipe, combine all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
Add 3 tablespoons of the whiskey sauce to the ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Blend well with your hands and form into 6 patties.
Sear the patties about 2 to 3 minutes per side directly over high heat. Reduce heat to medium or move to a cooler area of the grill.
Baste both sides with the remaining sauce and grill until the burgers are cooked through. (Try about 5-6 minutes on each side depending on your grill's tendencies)
During the last minutes of cooking, top with cheese and bacon, both optional, and lightly toast the buns or English muffins over medium heat.
Use whatever fixings you like; I like lettuce & tomato!
Make sure to use a quality Tennessee Whiskey on these puppies!
As for whether this recipe is safe for children, ie. does the alcohol 'cook out'? The answer is "yes and no". Alcohol once it reaches a temperature of 170 degrees begins to evaporate. While 100% of the alcohol does not evaporate about 99.7% does. That .07% left over is not harmful in any way. So, you will want to keep it at at least 170 degrees for about 5 minutes. You wouldn't give your children rare burgers anyway, right?
