Suggest a better description1. Slice tomatoes horizontally into 4 slices, each 1/2 inch thick. 2. Peel and split garlic; mash slightly with the side of a knife. Rub garlic on cut surfaces of tomatoes. 3. Arrange tomatoes on broiler pan. Sprinkle with herbs, salt, and pepper, and drizzle lightly with oil. 4. Broil until surfaces are blistered. Serve immediately. Variation: Sprinkle tomatoes with 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan or Romano cheese. Broil until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly.
