Very lemony, very tasty and very easy to make. My mother once won a contest with her Glazed Lemon Bread recipe. It's a wonderfully moist bread, saturated with lemony flavor, that's great for breakfast, as a dessert or just as a snack. I prefer my mother's recipe over other lemon bread recipes because the glaze is allowed to saturate the bread all the way through...also, heating the glaze to melt the sugar helps it go on smoothly, unlike the usual method which is "grainy" from unmelted sugar.
Cuisine: American-South Main Ingredient: Lemon
caroldamelio ,This bread was a great success. I didn't have unsalted butter so I used the salted variety and left out the salt that was called for. My family wants me to make it again and that's a great compliment in my house.13y
mackarel ,Looks great,I will try it Tonight, thanks for sharing. Ok I made this, substituted lime for lemon, since this was What I had,it came out nice and zesty, next time I will try to double the recipe.13y
akfatboy ,Don't make this too far ahead of time for a function if you want to actually serve any. The family scarfed it all up and I'm having to make another! Might try the modifications I've seen here and avoid bumping the oven this time :}13y
anubis1974 ,Turned out great! Wonderful lemon bread. It is one teaspoon of baking powder not a tablespoon. Much like a cake you should avoid bumping the oven until its almost done or it may fall. Just pay attention to what you're doing and it will turn out great for you as well. I added a little lemon zest to the glaze and let it reduce a bit before putting it on the loaf. Yummy!!13y
ccheryl ,wow people are cruel,,,i cant wait to try this recipe, the photos are making me hungry, great photos by the way,,,,thanks for posting,,,14y
wheatenma ,This recipe calls for "one TABLESPOON" of baking soda???? Must be an error here!!!14y
sgrishka ,Such a mature and well thought out comment! Not all recipes are for everyone...14y
atschef101 ,My mom, my brother and I love lemon bread! When we found this recipie we thought it would be AWSOME. When we tried it we found out that it was not good at all under any circumstances! It was WAY TOO dry. I would not recomend you eating this lemon bread only if you like dry lemon bread!14y
rachelcarrero ,After looking at numerous lemon bread recipes I decided to try this one. It was VERY good. I will need to adjust next time for the altitude here (it fell in the middle). I think for the glaze the juice of one lemon and 1/3 cup of sugar would work best, I had small lemons so I used the juice of 1 1/2 and it was a bit too lemony in the glaze.14y
gourmett ,Very good recipe!!! Based on some of the comments, I used 1 teaspoon of baking powder instead of a tablespoon... This worked well!14y
debbieatownsend ,Very good, but alittle dry, my bread collapsed in the middle to. I too think it calls for to much baking powder, will use less next time and re-post my findings.14y
monique1978 ,This is the best lemon bread I have ever made! Very moist and yummy. I like to dust the top with about 1/4 cup of powder sugar as the last step. I love every one of the recipes you have posted Sgrishka! Please keep them coming!!14y
rdhtemt ,This was fantastic and as others said I tried it again with oranges instead of lemon.. was wonderful. Mine also collapsed in the middle, but it didn't take away from the taste or texture one bit. 10 stars, loved it. Thanks so much.14y
caitc ,Potential to be a great Lemon Bread Recipe - but the misprint (or misunderstanding) to add 1 tablespoon baking powder could throw someone off. 1 Tablespoon baking powder is way too much for this recipe - more like 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons would be more accurate I think.14y
rdhtemt ,I LOVE this recipe. The bread is amazingly good, and I'm not a fan of lemon in baked goods that much. Made this for my lemon loving mother and she ended up having to share. Tried it again with oranges instead of lemon, and was again, delicious. THANK YOU, this is amazing. (My only problem was the middle sinking down, but that's most likely something I did, taste wasn't effected)14y
nlbumann ,I was looking for a recipe for something more like a pound cake. So the texture kinda surprised me, although it is called bread! For bread, it is VERY good. Letting it cool completely is very important for preventing it from falling apart when you slice it (I know! Very hard to do!) Flavor is awesome. Kids loved it. Mine sunk in the middle too, don't know if i did something wrong or if that's what it is supposed to do.14y
