Suggest a better descriptionCream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and buttermilk. Sift flour before measuring. Sift 2-3 times with all dry ingredients. Add the vanilla nad boiling water. This will make a thin batter that makes for a moist cake. Line two 9 inch pans with greased waxed paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
For red velvet reduce cocoa to 1/4 cup and add one small bottle of red food coloring.
