Suggest a better descriptionSift together dry ingredients (Sifting is very important for the icing sugar otherwise cookies are lumpy)
With wooden spoon, blend in butter until a soft smooth dough forms, ( I finish mixing with my hands with gloves makes a smoother dough)
Shape into 1 inch balls. If dough is to soft to handle, cover and chill for 30 to 60 minutes.
Place balls 1 1/2 inches apart on un-greased baking sheet: flatten with lightly floured fork.
Alternatively, roll dough to 1/4 inch; cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
Decorate with candied cherries, colored sprinkles or nuts if desired.
Bake at 300 for 15 to 20 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. ( Check after 18 minutes depends on the oven)
Cool on wire rack
