Melt butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa, sugar and eggs. mix well. Add flour and mix again. Add vanilla and nuts. Bake in greased 8 x 8 pan. 350* 20-22 minutes. Recipe must be doubled to put in a 13 x 9 pan, which is just the right size for the frosting recipe below.
Mix milk and vinegar. Heat butter, milk and cocoa to boiling. Remove from heat and mix in vanilla and sugar. Pour onto brownies. Frosting will be runny but it hardens as it cools.

I have made all manner of brownies in the past. I even own cookbooks dedicated entirely to brownies. However -- I always come back to this very simple but delectable recipe!! I experiment all the time too. For my birthday this year, I added 2/3 of a cup of shredded desiccated coconut and half a cup of chopped hazelnuts. By the way, hazelnuts and chocolate are a match made in heaven! Combined with coconut, these brownies are outstanding!! Try other combinations too. Add pecans and finely grated orange zest; make a Rocky Road version with nuts, mini marshmallows and crushed shortbread or Oreo cookies; try adding a swirl of Nutella and coarsely chopped Maltesers!! The choices are endless!! Simply outstanding recipe!!!!
Awesome recipe. I followed the recipe exactly, including doubling the brownie batter for a 13 x 9 pan. Also increased cooking time to 30 minutes, checking with a toothpick every 2 minutes after 25 to come out clean with a few crumbs. Used walnuts on half by spreading half the batter, adding nuts, the covering with remaining batter. Also sprinkled some nuts on top for good measure. Very rich, fudgey sweet and chewy result. Superb.
Made these today, they are all gone. I never have luck with brownie recipes, no idea why, just never happy. These were fantastic, omitted the nuts and the frosting, just a preference thing. So happy to have found this recipe, thank you, thank you, thank you
Many that have tried this recipe have omitted the frosting....the frosting is what makes these brownies so fudge-like....you MUST give them a try following the entire recipe....you will be AMAZED!!!! YUM!!
