Wonderful App
First, I trim off the woody bottom, close to the lowest set of leaves.
Then I peel off the layer of tough leaves at the bottom.
Then I take kitchen shears, and cut off the top of each leaf, about 1/2" off the pointy top.
(While I'm doing all of this, I have about 3/4" broth or water in a deep pan, simmering, ready for the artichokes.)
Put them in the water or broth, cover, and steam for about 45 min. or until you test a leaf and it pulls off easily. That means all is tender and ready to eat.
I serve them on a plate, with melted salted butter and lemon juice. With a basket to throw all the leaves into after dipping and eating.
Buen provecho!
