Preheat oven to 350?.
Cream together shortening, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Add eggs and beat well.
Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda - add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream. Fold in chopped apples.
Pour into 13x9 baking pan.Combine ? cup brown sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle on top. Bake for 20-30 minutes.
