Suggest a better descriptionheat the oil gently in a large saucepan, and allow the garlic to stew in the oil.
Gradually add the bread to the oil and garlic, stirring well.
Do not allow it to brown.
Add the water and the salt.
Throw in the tomatoes.
Allow the soup to simmer gently for 15 minutes, until the bread has become very soft but has not completely disintegrated.
Red chili pepper, or sweet pepper, or a beaten egg may be added just before serving
