Preheat oven to 350. Mash ripe bananas, stir in grated orange rind - set aside. Sift all dry ingredients - set aside. Cream sugar & butter until light. Add small amounts of dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with banana mixture. Stir in nuts. Pour int loaf pan. Sprinkle sugar on top. Bake 40-45 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
We had black walnut trees all around us so it was not difficult to get them - they add a certain depth to flavor that is well balanced by the orange but regular walnuts to pecan can be used.
