Saute Bacon in a heavy big pan. When done, but not crisp, add chopped vegetables. Stir on medium-low heat till vegetables are tender but not brown. Add clam juice but reserve clams till later. Add chicken broth. When it reaches a boiling point just let it simmer till vegetables are done. Add clams and half-and-half. When just hot add the arrowroot that has been mixed with a little water to make a smooth paste. Stir constantly till thickened. Add butter, salt, and pepper to taste.
Serve with sourdough bread.
