Throughly cream shortening and sugar, add egg and lemon extract and beat well. Sift flour, baking powder and salt, add alternately with milk, beating after each addition.
Bake at 350 in a wax paper lined or parchment and sprayed 8x8x2 pan for 30-45 minutes.
Sauce:
Combine all ingredients and mi well, cook in double boiler until thick, stir frequently. Or over very low heat and stir always. Can double recipe to make more sauce.
