If desired, brown pork chops in skillet with shortening.
Place chops in a shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with onion, poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. Add chicken broth. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
Combine cranberries, apple, and sugar with water, and spoon over pork chops. Bake for 20-30 more minutes, other until tender and done.
